Optical Conference tomography (OCT) is the latest technological advance which provides cross-sectional images of the retina in real time. It is similar to ultrasound and MRI, but uses light waves, and therefore allows the production of higher resolution images.
OCT provides a histological view in situ and real time. A non-invasive biopsy, its use in eye care is significant due to the cellular organization of the retina. Retinal OCT scans are used for diagnosis and management of a variety of retinal diseases, including Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, M.S., and Alzheimer’s, to name a few. Dr. Gavami utilizes OCT imaging to supplement other clinical tools and expertise, bringing the best in eye care to all his patients.
